About Tammy Turner

Tammy Turner is a Russian born, Jamaican raised, Canadian multi-disciplinary artist, poet and teacher currently residing between Canada, Jamaica and the Cayman Islands. Her roots, passion and appreciation for nature and the arts have had the most influence on her life and work, which is reflective of the changes in her mood, surroundings and state of consciousness.

Tammy’s work explores the schematics of colour and aesthetics, as well as themes of blackness, Caribbean-ness, femininity, poverty and love.  Her work in the arts spans over 14 years and incorporates mediums such as photographs, oil and acrylic paint, gold leaf, ink, paper, canvas, glass, ceramic etc.

As far as pedagogy, she has taught arts-based curricula to students from around the world and is invested in the many ways in which art, education and wellness intersect. Above all, her aim is to challenge herself and others to shift perspectives in order to expand the way the world is perceived and therefore experienced.
